The EDF Energy Half Marathon is back
Following the success of the 2008 event, Birmingham City Council and EDF Energy have today officially launched the 2009 EDF Energy Birmingham Half Marathon, which will be staged on Sunday 11 October at 10am.
This year’s event, which is organised by Birmingham City Council and sponsored by EDF Energy, has a brand new route. The event will start on Cambridge Street near Paradise Circus and will once again finish on Broad Street near Centenary Square. It will be held on the same morning as the 18th IAAF World Half Marathon Championships, which Birmingham has been selected to stage and the course is almost identical to the one which will be used for this prestigious event where an estimated 200 of the world’s best runners from around 50 countries will take to the streets of the city.
The event will once again be sponsored by EDF Energy, one of the UK’s largest energy companies, and will be known as the Race Against Climate Change so runners will be provided with dual training programmes covering off the physical preparation for a half marathon, and advice towards a lower carbon lifestyle too. Birmingham City Council and EDF Energy will work with race sustainability consultant Toby Radcliffe towards Council of Responsible Sport accreditation, to make the EDF Energy Birmingham Half Marathon the most sustainable athletics event in Europe.
